Hiking Timmervatnet

Hiking to Timmervatnet, Norway

Timmervatnet is a lake located between Jørpeland and the world-famous Preikestol (English: Preacher’s Pulpit or Pulpit Rock) in Rogaland County, Norway. The trip went from Stavanger to Tau, after which I caught a bus. From Jørpeland and inland, there was about 3-4 km to the foot of the hill which rises abruptly to the west side of the lake. Although the official name of the lake is Timmervatnet, the local uses the word ‘Tømmervatnet’ (English: Timber water), which has to do with cargo of timber.

The camp was set up at the north-eastern end of Timmervatnet, and due to the great weather, only a tarp and warm sleeping bag had been brought along. The warm sleeping bag and lots of tea came in handy, as the temperature fell to -2 degrees during the night alongside some snowfall at night.
